Principal's message
Families and friends,
Welcome to Dawson Public School. It is an absolute privilege to serve this wonderful community, and I am proud to lead a school where every child is known, valued, and inspired to grow. Across my years as a principal, including Wallacia Public School, Lord Howe Island Central School, and now Dawson, my belief in education has only grown stronger. Schools are one of the most powerful forces for hope and progress in the world. At Dawson, we come together from all walks of life to create a place of belonging, connection, and purpose. School is where children learn not only to read, write, think, and communicate, but also to collaborate, problem-solve, and adapt in a world that is changing faster than at any other point in human history. Our students will face challenges and opportunities we cannot yet imagine, and it is our responsibility to equip them with the curiosity, resilience, and confidence to navigate that future. Learning at Dawson Public School is broad, rich, and joyful. We ensure every child has opportunities to explore the arts, physical education, history, geography and, of course, science. Science is one of humanity’s greatest achievements, a way of thinking that invites us to question assumptions, examine evidence, and revise our beliefs in the pursuit of truth. These habits of mind matter just as much in daily life as they do in the classroom. They shape citizens who can work together, appreciate difference, and contribute thoughtfully to a more hopeful and connected world. At Dawson Public School we strive to create a safe, collaborative, and inclusive environment where all students are empowered to thrive. Through explicit teaching, personalised learning, and a strong focus on wellbeing, we support every child to develop academically, socially, and emotionally. We believe character matters. Relationships matter. And the way we learn together matters. We are not perfect; no school, no system, no society is, but we are committed to continual growth. By recognising our limitations, understanding our human tendencies, and embracing the strengths of our diverse community, we give ourselves the best chance to build something truly remarkable for our children. Thank you for taking the time to learn more about Dawson Public School. I am excited about the future we are building together, and I warmly invite you to connect with us, visit our school, and share in the learning journey of our students.
